Mary Blanche White Stubbs
1906-1986

Blanche was born August 19, 1906 in Alabama. She along with five other siblings were reared by their parents Lacey Durwood White and Ila Lee Walker White. Blanche graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama.

She married Charles Eugene Stubbs' and together they reared three children, and enjoyed the pleasure of five grandchildren. Blanche was a devoted wife and mother. She had high family values, a strong work ethic, and grew to appreciate the value of and the importance of a well-rounded education. Blanche loved and encouraged music activities for her family and often personally sacrificed to pay for music lessons.

In order for assist the family financially, Blanche worked outside the home. Her earnings made a difference in the children's dress, cultural activities, and education. Blanche was also activity in her church circle and made sure the children attended Sunday school, church, youth programs and youth camps.

In presenting the endowment to the Board of Directors, the benefactor, her daughter, Eugenia Battle said, "My mother was an inspiration to me and my brothers. By encouraging us to make music a part of our education, she gave us a source of pleasure for the rest of our lives. She was proud of Stubbs' Music Center and she would have believed in and supported the goals and aspiration of Stubbs' ' Educational Foundation. Inc. I know that this endowment, in her name, can make a difference for the children in Leon County and can have a long range positive effect on society. I honor my mother for her devotion to God Family, education and hard work."
