Jessica Albright:  VOICE AND PIANO DEPARTMENTS

In 2009 Jessica Albright became a faculty member at Stubbs' Music Center Jessica P. Albright, hails from Orlando, FLorida.  She received her BME (Choral emphasis) from the University of Central Florida and has been the choral director at several Middle Schools in Orange County for the past eight years.  While in college Jessica appeared as Orfeo in The Masterworks Festival in New Tork.  Upon graduation she was a featured mezzo-soprano soloist with the Orlando Ballet, has frequently appeared as a mexxo-soprano soloist in churches and cathedrals throughout Central FLorida, and appeared in the Hanover Program in Atlanta as Erika in Vanessa.  She has been teaching private voice lessons for five years and is currently working on her Masters in Music Therapy from Florida State University.

joann andersen:  Piano and voice departments

Joann Andersen received her Bachelors and Masters degree in Music Therapy from FSU.  Since 1994 she has been teaching piano, voice and music therapy at Stubbs' Music Center.  Presently she is the Stubb's Director of Operations as well as Music Therapist for Leon County Schools Adult and Community Education and Music Education teacher for K-12 for Robert F. Munroe School.

Tracie Ashley:  PRESCHOOL PIANO AND JINGLE JAM DEPARTMENT

Tracie Ashley has been a faculty member of Stubbs' Music Center since 2009.

David Brunow:  Piano department

Born in Sandusky, Ohio in 1978, David Brunow has been playing piano since the age of five.  In May 2001, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in German from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Bowling Green, Ohio.  From 1996 through 2002, Mr. Brunow taught piano to students of all ages for the Creative Arts Program at BGSU.  Aside from his studies at BGSU, Mr. Brunow has studied at the Universitat Mozarteum in Salsburg, Austria and at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Oberlin, Ohio).  In 2004, David Brunow completed a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance at Cleveland State University (Cleveland, Ohio) under the tutelage of Dr. Daniel Barber.  Mr. Brunow has taught piano for the Strongsville School System, Lake Ridge Academy (North Ridge, Ohio), the Firelands Symphony School for the Arts (Sandusky, Ohio) and for the Conservatory Outreach Department at Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music (Berea, Ohio).  In 2006, Mr. Brunow was awarded a graduate teaching fellowship in piano pedagogy at the University of Oregon, in Eugene, Oregon, where he taught private and group piano.  In September 2007, Mr. Brunow returned to the Universitat Mozarteum to study piano with Gereon Kliener.  Since June 2008, Mr. Brunow has been teaching piano at Stubbs' Music Center, Inc., and The Arts at Good Samaritan.  He is presently studying privately with Dr. Read Gainsford at Florida State University in preparation for doctoral auditions at FSU in 2009.

HEAJIN BYUN:  Piano department

Since 1998 Mrs. Byun has been a member of the piano faculty at SMC.

Margaret Denham:  VIOLIN DEPARTMENT

Originally from Lakeland, FL, Maggie Denham moved to Tallahassee to attend FSU where she studied violin with Eliot Chapo.  While in college, Maggie performed with many ensembles, including the University Philharmonia, the Ocala Symphony, and the Imperial Symphony Orchestra.  Also, in the Spring of 2009, Maggie performed as the Assistant Concertmaster of the Albany Symphony.  In addition to her performance experience, Maggie has many years of private teaching experience, working with students ranging in age from kindergarten throuh high school.  She is very excited to be a part of the Tallahassee music education community!

David Detweiler:  WOODWINDS department

Originally from Houston, TX, recently moved to Tallahassee after living for 12 years in New York City.  David is a woodwind specialist, playing saxophone, flute and clarinet.  He has performed at some of New York City's premier live music venues such as The Blue Note, Birdland, and the Knitting Factory.  David also spent 3 years touring and performing across the United States with the New York swing band Jet Set Six.

David studied at the University of North Texas and was in the 2 o'clock lab band under the direction of Jim Riggs.  He received his Bachelor of Music degree in performance at William Paterson University while studying with Rufus Reid and Harold Mabern, among others.

David started teaching private lessons in 1992 while attending William Paterson University in New Jersey.  He also taught private lessons in Houston and the New York City area.

David is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at Florida State University.  He joined the faculty of SMC in 2008.

Irina Escalante-Chernova:  piano, theory and composition Departments

Irina Escalante-Chernova is a composer and pianist born in Cuba.  In 2002 she finished her undergraduate degree, at the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana.  In 2003, she continued studying at Darthmouth College, where she got the degree of Master of Arts in electro-acoustic music.  She is currently a third-year doctoral candidate in music composititon at Florida State University.  She received in 2005, the "Residence" award at the 27th International Competition of Electro Acoustic Music and Sonic Art in Boures, France , with her first electronic piece "La Primavera del Angel".  Her works have been performed in various concerts and festivals of Contemporary Music performed in Latin America, Europe and USA.  Mrs. Escalante-Chernova became a faculty member at SMC in the Fall of 2006.

Michael Grant:  BRASS DEPARTMENT

Michael Grant has been a faculty member since the summer of 2009.

Jeff Henry:  Piano and Theory Departments

Jeff Henry, a composer and Jazz pianist, is originally from Orlando, FL.  He attended The College of Music at Florida State University and has a degree in Composition.  He studied composition with John Boda and Ladislav Kubik.  He studied piano with Leonidas Lipovetsky and Bill Peterson.  While in Orlando he played with the Jazz band at Seminole Community College.  He now is playing with the Jazz ensemble The Dorian Q.  They have played at many places in Tallahassee including:  Lucy Ho's Bistro, Sharkey's Cafe, Railroad Square Art Park, The FSU University Center, The Brokal-McDougual house, plus many other places.  He has composed film scores for two award winning films from the FSU Film School.  He has composed music for numerous theater productions including:  Antigone, Hamlet, Tartuffe, and A Christmas Carol at FSU's Mainstage; Love's Comedy at TCC; Blithe Spirit at Tallahassee Little Theater, and the original play, In the House of the Moles at the Railroad Square Art Park.  He has played with many different theater and cabaret ensembles in Tallahassee, Quincy, Miami, Baton Rouge, and Washington D.C. He has been teaching in Tallahassee for 10 years at Stubbs' Muisc Center and The School of Arts and Sciences.

Elizabeth Kelly:  Kindermusik and piano Departments

In the summer of 2009 Klizabeth Kelly became a member of the SMC Kindermusik and Piano Departments.  Elizabeth Joan Kelly is a composer/pianist from Slidell, Louisiana.  She holds batchelor's and master's degree in piano and music composition from Loyola University New Orleans (B.M. 05) and the Cleveland Institute of Muisc (M.M. 07).  Elizabeth has received numerous awards, including the Anthony "Val" Valentino Memorial Award, the Donald Erb Award, first place in the Ohio Federation of Music Club's Young Composers Contest, the Russell and Nancy Hatz Special Recognition Award from the National Federation of Music Clubs, and 2nd place in the Singing City Prize for Young Composers.  She was selected for the 2008 American Composer's Forum/Vocal Essence Essentially Choral Reading Program, and was a semi-finalist in the Jacksonville Symphony's Fresh Ink Orchestra Readings in June 2008.  Elizabeth's music has been performed by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Vox Novus, members of So Percussion, and by students and young professionals across the United States and Europe. 

Elizabeth is pursuing her M.S. in Library and Information Studies at FSU.  She became certified to teach Kindermusik in 2009 and also enjoys teaching piano and theory.

Chris Manuel:  Guitar Department

In 2005 Chris Manuel became a member of the SMC Faculty teaching guitar.

SHANE McDonald:  Piano, Voice and Theory departmentshane

In 2006 Mr. Mcdonald began teaching piano, composition and theory at Stubbs' Music Center.

Carmen Mullin:  Kindermusik Department

Carmen Mullin, is a licensed Kindermusik Instructor.  Music has always been part of her life and singing makes her feel good from the inside.  As a participant in high school choir and competitive show choir, she continued to learn and grow musically.  In college she felt the pull towards helping others in the field of nursing.  With a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from Ohio State University, she worked for Tallahassee Memorial Hospital as a Pediatric Intensive Care nurse.  When her children arrived, she devoted her time to helping them grow and enriched their lives with music.  She began taking Kindermusik classes with the two boys in 2002.  As a parent, she really loved everything about the clases and the effect they had on her children.  In 2006, she became licensed to teach Kindermusik and began her musical career as a Kindermusik Instrutor at SMC.  Her experience with child development from her nursing years along with a dual love of children and music make this the perfect career for Mrs. Mullin.

Jennifer Petersen:  PRESCHOOL PIANO AND ROCKIN' & STOMPIN' THEORY, PERCUSSION AND WOODWINDS DEPARTMENTS

Shannon Stovall:  Percussion department

Shannon Stovall has been studying the percussive arts for the last sixteen years.  In that time he has been garnished with such honors as Florida All-state Percussionist, FSU Tri-state Percussion Principal, FSU Honors Chamber Winds Solo Percussionist, FSU Big 8 Drumline Section Leader, as well as Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps' Tenor-line Section Leader.  He has also received several Superior awards for Snare, Timpani and Mallet solos and ensembles at both the District and State levels.  He has played drumset and written drum parts in a variety of styles with many fabulous ensembles including Kilometers, Pepper Drive, Dorian Q, and Punch White.  He has been requested to record tracks for various artist by the producer John Holmes (Holmes has worked with Elton John, Outkast, Whitney Houston, Pink, Peter Frampton, Ludacris, Kilometers, Crumbling Arches).  Shannon is currently recording for Kilometers (MySpace.com/listentokilometers) and playing live performances with the Dorian Q jazz quartet as well as teaching private lessons at Stubbs' Music Center and The Arts at Good Samaritan.

MArtha Herring Stubbs

Martha Herring Stubbs is a native of Calvary, Georgia and came to Tallahassee in 1970.  Martha is the founder, owner and President of Stubbs' Music Center.  Mrs. Stubbs received her Bachelor of Muisc degree from Wesleyan College in church music with a major in organ and a minor in piano.  She has been teaching for forty years.  She is active in the Florida State Music Teachers' Association in which she has served as President and Florida State Music Teachers' Foundation President.  She is the past President of the Tallahassee Music Teachers' Association and for FSMTA is serving as the chairperson of MTNA Junior Performance Competitions and Parliamentarian.  She is also active in the NAtional Piano Guild and Music Federation.  From 1990 through 2002 Martha was a memebr of the Technology Team for the Music Teachers' National Association.  She has held every office in the local and district FSMTA associations.  She has been a contributing author for "The Music and Computer Educator" and "Amercan Music Teacher" magazines.  In addition to giving music workshops across the country, she is also an adudicator for many music antest and evaluations.

Mrs. Stubbs is the Executive Diretor of Stubbbs' Educational Foundation as well as the Executive Director of "The Arts at Good Samaritan".

Mrs. Stubbs has received numerous awards and recognition for her dedication to helping othere through music education.  In 1999 she was honored by Wesleyan College as a "Distinquished Alumni for Service" within her community, one of 19 nominees for Leadership Tallahassee "Leader of the Year". Woman of the Year in Arts for Leon County, and the Mayor for Tallahassee recognized her contributions to the City of Tallahassee by proclaiming June 23rd as "Martha Stubbs' Day".  In 2006 she was recognized as a MTNA Fellow at the Music Teachers' National Conference.  In March of 2008 Mrs. Stubbs was honored by the "Tallahassee Democrat" as being one of the "25 Women You Need to Know in Tallahassee".
